Suggest Medication For Bilateral Edema In Feet

My mother in-law has a lot of edema bilaterally in her feet. I have had her on OTC lasix for two days every six hours and elevation. The swelling hasn t gone down. She hasn t seen a doctor in 50+ years and is 80. I need to give her an idea of what is going on to get her to the doctor.

Well...bilateral pedal edema..collection of fluids..it has many causes from the systemic to local causes.
Systemic causes include cardiac failure, liver problems,renal,Endocrine (myxedema) Infection (cellulitis) Parasitic (lymphatic filariasis) Idiopathic edema.
And deep vein thrombosis...
It needs investigations to find out the causes.
Some basic tests should be done like..complete blood count,urine analysis,serum proteins,ECG,and LFTs...after consulting the doctor and further examination he should suggest other specific tests.
