Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic
Acne is a condition of the pilosebaceous glands and can affect sites rich in sebaceous glands like face, chest, shoulders and trunk.
The treatment is guided by the severity of acne.
Oral treatment is mainly reserved for inflammatory acne. Oral treatment options include
Oral antibiotics like
Azithromycin, Doxycycline, Lymecycline etc and Oral retinoids like
Isotretinoin. Oral retinoids are mainly reserved for severe acne and acne unresponsive to traditional antiacne medications.
Topical treatment is a useful adjunct to oral treatment and mainly revolves around topical antibacterials like clindamycin, topical
benzoyl peroxide and topical retinoids like Adapalene.
Since acne is a chronic condition and treatment is often long term. Therefore, once the condition has improved significantly with treatment, it is imperative to sustain the improvement with a topical maintenance regime, commonly a topical retinoid like Adapalene.
Topical retinoids are comedolytic as well as antiinflammatory and therefore prevent new acne formation.
I would suggest that you visit a
dermatologist in your region. Your dermatologist would be able to visually assess the severity of acne and prescribe accordingly.
