Suggest Medication During Pregnancy For POTS

Propanolol and pregnancy? I take 60mg of propranolol x2 a day for POTS and recently found out I am 6weeks pregnant. My heart rate will jump to 140+ when I stand up or lean over and it causes me to black out and seizure. I have been dealing with this the past 5years and this medication isn t good.

Dear Ma'am, Hi & Welcome to HCM.
I can understand your concern for the safety of Propranolol during pregnancy.
Ideally, all medications should to be stopped prior to pregnancy because there are no “Class A” medications (i.e., the FDA classification for the safest drugs for pregnant women) available to treat Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). However low dose of a beta blocker like Propranolol seem to have no adverse maternal or fetal effects. Other drugs like Fludrocortisone, Midodrine and SSRIs (antidepressants) are also commonly prescribed to treat POTS during pregnancy. I therefore advise you to consult your treating physician for a safer medication as discussed above. Hope this helps you in getting proper treatment with less side effects.
A feed back is appreciated.
