Hello doc. I have a stomach ulcer, and my physician prescribed an acid reducer that I am to take daily. My symptoms, at times, can be embarrassing and painful. How can I speed up the healing/recovery time of this condition? What foods might be irritating the ulcer and making my condition worse? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you.
Hi ! Good evening. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.
If I were your doctor, I would advise you to avoid all kinds of oily, fried food specially outside fast food kind of things. You should add a lot of roughage to your bland diet, and enough liquids. Reduce your weight if you are overweight or obese. Stop smoking and alcoholic beverages if you do consume these. Go for a regular active exercise programme like walk or jogging within your own medical limits. All these measures along with the drug treatment which you have been prescribed would help in healing your gastric ulcer.
I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts. Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on your health problems. Wishing you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.
