Hello Mr. Himanshu,
I have gone through your query and understood your concern. An induced medical abortion can be done in an uneventful pregnancy until 9 weeks of gestation, preferably up to 7 weeks because beyond this period, there is an increased chance of an incomplete abortion. The whole process should be performed under the surveillance of a specialist and follow up sonogram is mandatory to exclude any left over products. In the current scenario, she needs a proper clinical exam, a trans-vaginal sonogram to locate the gestation sac, to rule out ectopic pregnancy and to know the age of the pregnancy. If everything is fine, she can proceed for the abortion with doctor's guidance. Hope your query has been answered.

OBGYN Dr. Srilatha Myaka's  Response
Hello dear,
I understand your concern.
In my opinion the termination of pregnancy is dependant on the number of weeks of pregnancy.
Early pregnancy upto 6-7 weeks can be terminated by medicines.
But after 7 weeks surgical termination like D&C might be required.
If you have regular cycles and the period is delayed by a week with positive pregnancy test then medical termination can be tried.
But even in early pregnancy the medical termination might fail and in that case D&C should be done.
May be your doctor thought regarding the failure and suggested you the surgical method.
I suggest you to undergo the medical termination under doctor supervision.
Do not try on your own as they are associated with complications like heavy bleeding, incomplete abortion etc.
Hope this helps.
Best regards..Dr.Srilatha
