Suggest If Gabapentin And Trazodone Help For Anxiety

yes I AM FRIGHTENED AS i Have bad anxiety and I am 60 and cant get rid of it . I tried the ssris and snris and I threw up and got sicker and sicker and body would not take it. now the doctor wants me to try lamotrigine and says it helps with anxiety when nothing helps. he says I need something to put chemicals in my brain. I am constantly anxious and can sleep but when I wake it is the worse and lasts til I sleep. I wonder if gabapentin and trazodone will help me? doctor says I need chemicals in my brain and only ssri's do that. when I took them I would keep vomiting and get sicker.
I am scared so what do u suggest? I am afraid of the new med called lamotrigine as he said it was found to be a pill that will help anxiety even tho it is not approved by that. help me please.

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.

I understand that you are going through a difficult time due to your anxiety problems. You have mentioned that SSRIs and SNRIs cause sever gastric irritation and vomiting.

Lamotrigine is a mood stabilizing medication and like you have mentioned, it is not approved for the treatment of anxiety disorders. Gabapentin is a GABA analog, used as an anti-epileptic. It also has anti-anxiety effects. Trazadone is an antidepressant and can have sedative and anti-anxiety properties.

Without knowing your full history and evaluating you, it would not be appropriate for me to suggest any medication for you. So, I would advise you to discuss further treatment options with your doctor and make an informed choice regarding your medication.

Wish you all the best.
