Hi,I am Neethu Vipin (Dietitian & Nutritionist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, My father is 59 years old and recently just done the angioplasty due to the blockage up to 90%. My questions are:- (a) What is the healthy diet for him after angioplasty?is it very important? (b) Would he back to his normal life after recovery? I am really worry on his health. (c) How high is the percentage of getting back the blockage if he is on health diet, exercise and stop smoking?
Don't worry he will be just fine as he has undergone angioplasty now. Just make sure he stays physically active to improve blood circulation and avoids fatty and fried foods, too much of fats from butter, ghee and packaged foods. Limit oil in cooking to not more than 2-3 tsp for one person in a day and avoid giving processed foods. If non-vegetarian choose lean meats, eggwhites only (not yolk due to it high cholesterol content) and skinless chicken and fish which are better options. Avoid rich gravies, oily curries and outside food. Include fresh fruits, raw vegetables salads, beans and whole pulses and grams and whole grain cereals in his diet such as oat bran, whole wheat products and brown rice etc.
Having a high fibre and low fat diet, alongwith exercise or physically active lifestyle helps in reducing the risk for heart disease considerably. Once a person stops smoking his risk for getting heart disease is also reduced.
