Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, my husband takes omeprazole 40 mg once a day. He used to be on Nexium and everything was good. Our insurance no longer covers that so that is why he takes the omeprazole. He is always gassy and bulches a lot so we were wondering if he could take this one twice a day instead. He is a heart patient and that is why they put him on a stomach pill. One of the pills he is on doesn t agree with him but we are not sure which one.
It is better to take Omeprazole 20 mg twice daily than 40 mg once daily. Twice daily is more effective as Omeprazole acts only for about 12 hours. If you don't have possibility for 20 mg Omeprazole, then 40 mg twice daily is also an option, but it is a high dose and not recommended for long period.
Hope I could help you
Wishing your husband a good health
