Suggest Dosage Of Amoxicillin For Throat Infection
Hello, my daughter was diagnosed with strep throat and was given two bottles of amoxicillin 400/5ml QTY 100
and was instructed to take one teaspoon by mouth twice daily. It says the same instructions on both bottles. The pharmacist thought it was odd because I was given two bottles. My daughter is 4yrs old, and weighs 30 lbs. I was just wondering if she was supposed to finish both bottles or just take two teaspoons for ten days and discard the rest, or if we got an extra bottle and if we should discard it? Thank you so much for your help.

If the antibiotic is indicated then this need to be given in calculated dosage according to age and weight, if this is not indicated then no need to give any antibiotic this is the first condition need to be take under consideration, if your daughter is asymptomatic then no need to give further antibiotic, throat condition most of the time have a allergic constitution, and does not need antibiotic, hope this information helps, have a nice day.

Ideally the dose of amoxicillin is 25-40 mg per kg of body weight to be given three times a day.
Sometimes it is given twice a day also.
Dose for your daughter is ( 30 lbs =12 kg ) 25 into 12 that is 300 mg three times a day.
You would need two bottles for the entire course for 5-7 days.
