Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi how long should one stay on lamotrigine I have been taking it now for 1 year and 4 months. They gave it to me when I had some inflammation on the left side of the brain. I was very sick with anexity and was admitted into the hospital for 2 weeks. My doctor in the hospital gradually put me on 100 mg twice a day. e-mail address is YYYY@YYYY
Lamotrigine should not be discontinued abruptly. Abrupt stopping of the medication increases the risk of seizures and rebound of mood symptoms. Lamotrigine is discontinued slowly by tapering down the dose under doctor's supervision. Treatment with Lamotrigine is long term and I recommend that you consult with your doctor to see if discontinuing the medication is right for you.
Hope I was able to answer your question Please feel free to address any more concerns Regards, Dr.Lekshmi
