Suggest Dosage For Gabapentin

I have been prescribed Gabapentin for pain because of spinal stenosis. I was advised to increase the dosage: 300 mgs in the a.m; 300 mgs around noon and 600 mgs in the evening. I did so yesterday and last evening. This morning when I woke up I felt as though I were paralyzed from the neck down. It took a minute or so before I could finally wake up enough to get out of bed and then I staggered around as though I were drunk. I kept wanting to go back to bed which is unusual for me. I finally came out of it after a shower and 2 cups of coffee. All day today I have felt lethargic. Can you give me ypur thoughts?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Gabapentin has got a highly sedative effect. High dose of gabapentin will definitely cause sedation.
It is more common during initial days of usage.
If you can not tolerate such high dose you can try other alternatives.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
