Suggest Dosage For Amoxicillin For Tooth Infection

Hello. I am on amoxicillin for a tooth infection. I took one at 6:30am. I got my times mixed up and took another one at 10:30. I'm due to take another now (2:30) and am wondering if I should take it or skip it until my next dosage time (10:30pm)? Thank you!

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

For dental infections the maximum dose of Amoxicillin that is given to patient is 500 mg of Amoxicillin three times a day..

It means it has to be taken after every 8 hours.

The reason behind this is that amoxicillin gets excreted out of the body in 6 to 8 hours time, so in order to fight with the infection you need to maintain the concentration of the medicine in the body, so if taken after every 8 hours it has a persistant effect on the bacteria and help in reducing the infection from the body.

I would suggest you to take the medicine on time and do not mix up the doses as it will lead to insufficient action of the drug, infact it can have an overdosage reaction if taken in very close durations.

I would also suggest you to take your dosage at night now at 10:30 and then continue taking it on specified times for desired results..

Hope your query is solved..

Thanks and regards..
Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
