Suggest Diet Plan To Control Cough And Acid Reflux

My husband has just switched from PPIs to H2 blockers (his gastroenterologist recommended the switch) and for two weeks everything has been okay. However, he awoke this morning around 3:00 AM with significant coughing and acid in his throat. NOTE: he is scheduled in 3 weeks for his colonoscopy (has had two, over the past 20 years, without indication of polyps.) Can you suggest foods that would improve his condition? Thanks in advance. General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Recommendations for acid reflux are to avoid:

acidic foods, citrus (oranges, lemons, limes), tomatoes, mint (because it relaxes the lower oesophagal sphincter allowing acid to come up), caffeine, chocolate, alcohol, very spicy or greasy foods.

Also, avoid eating for 2-3 hours before lying down. And elevated the head of the bed with blocks.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Bonnie Berger-Durnbaugh, General & Family Physician
