Suggest Diet For Weight Loss

Is it better to eat two helpings of meat and vegetables for dinner; no potatoes or starches, and no snacks later in the evening or one helping for dinner and a snack in the evening? If I eat too lightly during dinner I end up snacking later. I eat light all day. I do eat breakfast. I watch carbs carefully.
