Hi,

Noted the history about your 55 year old Father and understood the concerns.

Night duty on alternate days means change of food timings, bowel habits.
Cigarette smoking may not be directly related to fatty liver and diabetes but surely related to esophagitis and gastritis, there is a well established link.
Uncontrolled diabetes is known to cause the complications added on by smoking. Hence stopping smoking if very importance.
The commonest cause of fatty liver is sedentary life that is lack of exercises and oily foods. Once corrected this can help to recover.
Esophagitis needs treatment with a PPI like Pantoprazole, antacids and motility regulator like Domperidone or Metoclopramide.
Get regular Upper GI Endoscopies to see the progression.
Take soft and bland diet free of any oily things.
Exercises also help for control of diabetes.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant,
