Hello, I am a 50 y/o female rheumatoid patient and have been in the heat quit a bit lately- just started a new sinus rinse that is Zithromax and a steroid, Topamax and finshed 4 days of generic diflucan. I have developed 2 nearly pea sized red painful bumps just on th inside of my right butt cheek. Also What appeared to be a heat rash or similar bumps but not big a bit further out and down. Have applied Neosporin to that and it seems a bit improved. The 2 larger bumps came up last night and are not. (I had tried a new soap; Dial triple moisture soap prior to the break out and have stopped it just in case).
I suggest a possibility of bacterial infection i.e Furuncle, given that these bumps are tender. Heat and sweating definitely encourage bacterial infections of skin & soft tissues and might be a factor here. The infection gains entry through the hair follicles. I suggest a course of an Oral antibiotic for a week. My choice would be either Amoxycillin or cephalexin for a week. This would take care of the bacterial infection. Topically you may use an OTC topical antibacterial e.g either mupirocin 2% ointment Or neosporin ointment, twice daily for a week. An OTC oral anti-inflammatory / painkiller e.g ibuprofen twice or thrice daily will provide you symptomatic relief from pain and swelling. You may use an antibacterial soap/ body wash for a few days.
Regards
