Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My heart periodically feels like it chugs. I will be sitting there watching t.v. or laying in bed then all of a sudden it feels like a big thud in my heart or like my heart stalls and then starts up again with a big chug.. it only happens once or twice and then goes away again. What is that?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Most probably these are ventricular premature complexes. These are ectopic or extra beats. These are usually benign and not life threatening. These are frequently associated with MVP, also caffeine, alcohol, thyroid problems may aggravate these. So before going ahead we need to confirm it. Since these are not frequent ECG may be normal, so in that case you ll need 24 holter monitoring which can diagnose these. You should also get thyroid test done. You ll need beta blockers like Metoprolol to keep these under control.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
