Suggest Antidepressant With Less Side Effects

I have been feeling low and depressed since the birth of my son 7 weeks ago. I was prescribed citalopram 20mgs one per day but after taking my first one i got a horrible burning sensation on the top half of my body and suicdal thoughts worsened. After the birth of my eldest son i was prescribed cipralex which i also had an adverse reaction to. Is there any antidepressants out there that have low side effects???? I am also currently on 4mgs of diazepam three times a day any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello thanks for asking from HCM

Citalopram and Escitalopram both are drugs of SSRI class. These drugs are safe drugs and have good antidepressant and anti anxiety effect. In a number of cases when therapy is started rebound increase in anxiety is seen. This increase in anxiety last for about 4-7 days. So there is no need to fear from these drugs. Other than these drugs, there are other drugs like Mirtazepine, Venlafaxine which don't cause much increase in anxiety on first dosing. You can consult your psychiatrist for these drugs. These drugs will not result in worsening of symptoms during initial days of therapy.

Thanks, hope this helps you.
