Suggest An Effective Alternative To Silvadene Cream

I understand that Silvadene Cream 1% is an antibodic cream, I was given this at the ER Thrusday Evening, after burning my forearm removing my Thanksgiving Ham from the oven. They explained to me how to clean, treat and care for my burn, and gave me supplies, to bring home with me, to continue care for my burn at home. In the meantime, my Daughter fell into a wood burning stove last night, to prevent herself from falling completely onto it, she put her hand down to stop herself from a complete fall, in doing this, she burned the palm or her right hand. We immediately started following the same process I had just gone through two night s prior. Our complication at the moment is tht we only have 1/2 of the tube of Silvadene Cream 1% left, my burn is 2nd Degree, verses her s being 1st degree.. She leaves tonight to go back to Campus, at GeorgeTown College, I m wondering what would be Equvilent to this Silvadene Cream to send back to College with her, feeling I more so need the Silvadene for my 2nd degree burn, although hers cannot just be left untreated as well.. Can you assist me?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I understand your concern and I am sorry about both accidents. First of all, I strongly recommend your daughter sees a doctor in order to properly determine the degree and the area of burn, as well as get her own prescription of Silvadene cream. If not properly treated, burns can leave scars and have worse consequences. Unfortunately, there is no over the counter Silvadene cream but you make a mixture made of steroid cream, eucerin, bacitracin and benadryl, all of which can be found over the counter, and apply it three times a day on the burn area.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ornela Ademovi
