Suggest An Effective Alternative For Verapamil

I have had an allergic reaction to Spirolactone, Losartin and now Amlodopine. My Dr. is telling me that he will put me on a Channel BLock, either Verapamil or Diltiazen. After looking them up I don t feel I want to take either one of them. What are some other choices. My Dr. is an Internest, and, a good one. Should I see someone who specializes in high blood pressure such as a cardiologist. The reason my Dr. put me on blood pressure medication (I am 72 years old) is because pressure was jumping around. I have been on a very small dose every other day and it works.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Ok, so option left for you is of hydrochlorothiazide and beta blockers like Metoprolol. So you request your doctor for hydrochlorothiazide 25/50 mg depending upon the need and if need beta blockers may be added. Have low salt diet and regular exercises.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
