Suggest An Alternative Of Penidure

Hello, My Elder brother, age 44, was prescribed Penidure 12 three years ago. Since then he has been taking it every 3 weeks. But for more than 2 months now the said injection is not available in Stores. Is there any substitute for this injection and how long is it safe for him without this dose? Thank you!

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Penidure is a popular brand name of penicillin. I think he is taking it for rheumatic heart disease. He can take alternative brands available in the market. Biotic-P and Benzibiotic are commonly prescribed alternatives. Generally it is used for five years depending on the severity of the lesion, consult his physician to confirm the duration of the treatment.

Wishing all the best.
