Suggest Alternatives For Doxycycline And Flucloxacillin

I am travelling in Asia and have currently pericoronitis (have gotten in 3 times in the past 2 years). I have brought two antibiotics with me Doxycycline and Flucloxacillin. I have been taking the later for the last 2 days but fear it won t work and I will get a lot worse. Can i subsititute either of these for my common antibiotic which was Amoxicillin?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Have you consulted your dental surgeon? Who prescribed you these two antibiotics? The best treatment usually advised for pericoronitis is chlorhexidine mouth wash. Amoxicillin is best fir your throat infections. Flucloxacillin is best for skin infections caused by Methicillin resistant staph aureus. Doxycycline is good only for certain organisms. The best choice could only be recommended after culture and sensitivity test and you should consult your dental surgeon for that. Any way you can use amoxicillin 500 mg or co amoxi-clav 625 mg TID.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
