Suggest Alternative Of Plavix Inspite Of Having Additional Stent

Recently I had an additional stent put in. My new doctor took me off generic Plavix (my sistem seemed not to respond to it effectively) and put me on Brilinta. I ve noticed that with Brilinta I bruise more easily than with Plavix. Because bleeding is one of the side effects, I am nervous of this risk. Should I ask for another kind of med?

Hello
Welcome to HCM. Thanks for posting your query. I understand your concerns.
Plain contains clopidogrel which is an anti platelet drug. Brilinta contains ticagrelor which is also a antiplatelet drug.

As you have undergone stenting your doctor has prescribed you the following medication. Any antiplatelet drug for that matter will have bleeding as the main side effect because it will prevent platelet plug formation.

If you are bruising more easily with the latter you can ask for change of drug, but mind you other drug also will have this side effect.

Hope this helps you.

Thank you
