Suggest Alternative Medicine For Risperdal

My 5 yo grandson is having risperdal since last January (0.5 mg in the morning and 1 mg at night). Ever since that day, he s gained more than 20 pounds and I see no real benefit of the medication: he s very anxious, doesn t sleep well and he s sometimes agressive. Nicolas was born on NOvember 8, 2008; weights 92 pounds and he s 1.32 m (about 4.3 feet). His parents don t want to stop giving him the med because he seems to have more attention skills and responds to his name more frequently than before -but I think this improvement is not provided by risperdal. What can we do? what would happen if we remove risperdal?

THANKS FOR YOUR QUERY.
Risperdal is an atypical or second-generation antipsychotic prescribed for the treatment of schizophrenia, schizo-affective disorder, irritability in children, and bipolar disorder; if use of this drug is abruptly stopped, Risperdal withdrawal effects are very likely to emerge.
Choosing to stop taking this medication can ultimately be a very wise, positive, and even life changing choice. However, this wise decision can often bring about Risperdal withdrawal syndrome that requires Risperdal withdrawal treatment. Withdrawing from an antipsychotic should never be done without talking to the doctor who prescribed it to you. There is a chance that some doctors will not support the decision to get off of the medication, in these cases; consult a rehabilitation center or alternative type of doctor.

If this medication is used to treat or prevent psychotic and manic episodes, withdrawing from this drug can trigger relapses of schizophrenia and psychotic episodes. But when antipsychotic withdrawal is done too abruptly; symptoms are likely to be more severe. Many prescription medication rehabs are available and capable of handling Risperdal discontinuation. Withdrawing from this drug does not have to be painful if you have the right help to cleanse the body in a healthy and safe way.
Seroquel, Ziprexa, Zeldox, and Abilify(may be the best option that has comparative less weired side efects) would be alternatives to Risperadol.
