Suggest Alternative Medicine For Glimy M2 For Type 2 Diabetes

My mother is 53years aold with Type2 diabetes. About two months ago she was prescribed Glimy M2 as her sugar levels were high (about 329 post prandial). Her levels have come down (240 on testing yesterday). But she is feeling very giddy, tired, hungry, flatulent, headache, unexplained anxiety, increase in weight, and restlessness since past few days. Can you suggest her any suitable alternative medicine? She previously had Gluformin Xl 500. Can she revert to it?

Hello there,
I understand your concern about your mother's health. Her blood sugars currently are on the higher side and she needs to be on Glimy M2. I do not understand from this whether she is taking it once a day or twice a day. But she may infact need addition of medicines if sugars do not come under control. Target for control are usually fasting 90-120 and post meals: 130-180. Depending on any other problems she has like frequent low sugars or Kidney status the targets may vary slightly but 240 is very high. Please discuss with your diabetologist who may advise some tests and may add any other medicines based on the results. Glimy M2 may cause low sugars sometimes which may cause giddiness, hunger, anxiety. So when your mother feels these symptoms check her sugars right then. Only if it is less than 70mg/dl is it low sugar. Sometimes in some patients who always have high sugars even levels reducing to some extent like 180-200 may also cause symptoms. But there is nothing to worry gradually it will get better. Going back to taking only Gluformin 500 is not an option as Glimy M2 has 2 drugs combined in one and Gluformin has only one. So best would be that her diabetologist after thorough evaluation and blood tests adds any medicines as required.
Till then continue to follow diet restrictions and see if some form of exercise can be done by your mother which will help to reduce the sugars further.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
