Suggest Alternate Over The Counter Medication For Bystolic

I have been taking Tribenzor in combination with Bystolic to control hypertension and occasional irregular heart rhythm (PVCs). These med shad worked beautifully for years. Now the insurance company out of the blue is balking at paying for Tribenzor. They want to substitute Valsortan and claiming these are generic for the Tribenzor. From what i can see on line the only common drug beteed the two is HCTZ. What is your take?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Bystolic is composed of 'nebivolol', which belongs to a group of drugs called beta blockers. It is used to treat hypertension. You can ask for generic make of the above drug in the pharmacy, which would be cheaper than branded. Generic make does have the same effect as branded and is not known to cause any other side effect.

Valsartan is a generic drug, which is an angiotensin II receptor blocker. It works by relaxing the blood vessels and helps to lower blood pressure. Valsartan is not the generic make of Tribenzor.

Tribenzor is a three in one fixed dose combination of:
1. Olmesartan Medoxomil -- blocks angiotensin II receptors.
2. Amlodipine -- inhibits the entrance of calcium into the blood vessel walls.
3. Hydrochlorothiazide -- diuretic which reduces water volume in the blood.

Kindly take the medication as prescribed by your treating doctor and do the necessary follow-up as suggested.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran S
