Suggest A Medication Having Lesser Potential Than Nebicard2.5

SuggDoctor , I have underwent Coronary angiogram 10 days back, which revealed normal epicardial coronaries, mid LAD - mild muscle bridge, Procedure and post procedure period was uneventful. I have been adviced to take tab.nebicard 2.5mg one in the morning after food. I had taken the medicine alongwith my lipid medicine Rosuvas 5 mg. which i am taking for the last three years. After taking nebicard 2.5 I felt palpitations in the evening on first day but after that no problem. But after reading that the tablet is for chronic heart failure and high blood pressure, I felt that the medicine of this potential may be required for me since I do not have chronic level of heart disease and I have no history of high blood pressure. After taking the tablet for 5 days, I stopped taking the medicine with a plan to consult the doctor later on. But I had the symptoms of discomfort in the heart while wakeup from bed which was having before the procedure. Please advice me whether there is a medicine which is lesser potential than Nebicard2.5 or any other medications which has lesser side effects and stopping the medicine after consuming for 5 days would create any problems. Thank you Sasidhar

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Nebicard is a medication not only used for elevated blood pressure and chronic heart failure, but more importantly for ischemic heart disease.

Nebivolol, of beta-blocker medications, in general, is an important medication for ischemic heart disease for its effect in reducing symptoms of exertional chest pains as well as palpitations, and its total benefit in reducing cardiac events and even death.

And continuing the medication is important in your case.

I suggest a follow up with your doctor for dose modification or shifting to another beta blocker like metoprolol or bisoprolol, depending on your doctor's choice.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Daryl Derick B. Dizon, General & Family Physician
