Welcome to HCM
UTI for 8 years long, I know you must be having recurrent urinary tract infection.
Yes E.Coli is common organism involved but it is also notoriously resistant to many drugs, but when it is treated for long time and any predisposing factor like any obstruction,Stricture,or Vesicouriteric reflux if present treated it is possible to cure chronic UTI.
You should see a Urosurgeon and let him examine and investigate the cause some time prostate infection or poor immunity may be reson for recurrence.
Please continue to take antibiotic and keep good hygine may prevent recurrence.
Take care
Good Luck
