Hi there,
Thank you for writing to us.
I am sorry to know about your brother in law.
With a headache and fever along with vomiting the first thing that I would like to have done is an examination of the CSF (spinal fluid).
With these symptoms one of the things that I would like to rule out is an infection of the meninges (which are coverings of the brain) that can present in a similar fashion.
Since there is already a source of infection in the form of a wound, this can spread to the brain as well and could cause the symptoms that he is having.
Additionally he may be having a septicemia (infection that is widespread in the blood) which is something that is dangerous and needs to be treated with broad spectrum antibiotics.
It is also important that his blood glucose should be kept well in control because a high blood glucose will never allow an infection to be settled.
Kindest Regards
