Suffering From Pain In Arm And Freezing Cold Body

Hi my name is amber and I started have a pain in arm, almost like an achiness Sunday night which progressedinto Monday morning, and I also started to feel the pain all over my body, I left work with a temp of 102 and got to the er and had no temp, but was given tests for strep as well as flu.. both came back negative however because of the intense pain I was feeling I was given pain and muscle relaxer shots and diagnosed with the flu.. the pain continued and I didn t sleep through that night, I woke up the next morning still sore but now nauseous, that night my fever spiked again and I was freezing cold but when id cover up I became very hot, and then yesterday, I noticed my muscles just weren t working right, I went to pick up a coke bottle and my arm started shaking and I had to put it down because I had no strength, I attributed it to the flu, I had no fever yesterday but still nauseous with stomach pains.. now today I took a shower and wasn t afraid until I went to wash my hair and could grip anything tightly and couldn t even raise my arms for more than a few seconds without them shaking, is this normal.. help

Hi,
There is a condition called Guillian Barre Syndrome (GBS) and your description raises that doubt. One of the common causative agent is a bacteria called Campylobacter jejuni which is predominantly a gut bacteria. This could also explain the gastric symptoms you have been having. Typically GBS affects hands and feet first and then weakness progresses to arms and leg, sort of an ascending weakness. This is usually diagnosed by a CSF analysis ( spinal fluid will be withdrawn by putting a needle into your spine and this would be sent for test). Also nerve conduction studies will help. GBS usually resolves with early diagnosis and prompt treatment with immunoglobulins and a process called plasmapharesis. I would urge you to go to a good teriary care facility and get investigated promptly as this
condition if allowed to progress would impose serious health risks. Hope this helps.
