Suffering From Indigestion, Frequent Heart Burn, Gas Formation, Acid Reflux, GERD. Remedy?

Hello Dr. I have been suffering from a indigestion problem(frequent heartburn , gas formation on stomach and chest area) for the past 2-3 years! I was diagnosed with Acid- Reflux disease or GERD/GORD! I am also unable, mostly at night-time to digest fast-food or Restaurant-foods, or in general, too much oily or spicy(sauces etc) foods, even if cooked at home! I usually wake up every morning with either a pressure-feeling around my chest, or slight burning sensation in my stomachs, which lessens after I ve drank some water, and had a glass of milk! Again, I cannot stay away from foods for too long as Gasses start accumulating in my stomach-to chest area, leading to eventual heartburn! Please suggest a lifestyle, and/or a remedy preferably ayurvedic! Thank you

Hi Riddhiman,
Thanks for writing your query.

Your symptoms are due to increased acid and gas production.
You should follow a healthy life style and follow some precautions like :-
1. Avoid spicy and oily foods.
2. Donot miss a meal.
3. Avoid emotional/mental stress.
4. Avoid cigarette/alcohol.
5. Donot self medicate especially with pain killers and steroids.

Doing yoga and meditation wil remove stress, if any.
Drink lots of water daily.
You can take Yoghurt or curd, if it suits you, it will be helpful.

You should take antacid Ranitidine 150 mg twice a day before meals along with Domperidone 10 mg after consulting with your treating doctor. Antacid gel forms a protective coating over the mucosa of the stomach and is beneficial.

Also get yourself investigated for H.Pylori.

I hope this helpful to you.
Thanks.

Hello!

Thank you for the query.

It is advisable at your case to start with upper GI endoscopy. It is important as you need to know what are you dealing with. Such symptoms can be due to GERD, however peptic ulcers or even stomach cancer are possible as well. Moreover, your symptoms can be caused by Helicobacter Pylori infection what should be verified as well.
Until the endoscopy you should avoid fatty foods, fruit juices, soft drinks and coffee(!). Increase mineral water intake. Last meal should be 2 hours before sleeping. Do not lie down after a meal and try to put your head little bit higher when sleeping.

Hope this will help.
Regards.
