Suffering From Eye Infection, Taking Steroids. Will Steroids Harm Eyes?

Hi Sir,
Few days back my daughter has some eye infection with redness in corner of eyes and some sticky yellow material deposited in the corner of eyes i took her to eyes specialists and he suggested steroids to her and i put steroids eye drops in her eyes now she is okay i just wanted to will steroids cause any harm to eyes?

Hello

Steroid eye drops on long term basis are used only under the supervision of an eye specialist. Use of long term steroids is harmful and can give rise to problems related to visual acuity in the eyes.

Normally, the steroid drops are not used as and when required. Once the drops are started, they should be tapered off weekly or bi-weekly depending upon the response of the drops in the eyes.
