Suffering From Diabetics, Prostate Enlargement, Increase In Creatine. Is Doing Dialysis Recommended At 83 Years?
my father 83 years old, diabetic, with prostate enlargement grade III, recently diagnosed with increase in creatinine day by day and at present is 8.92 and dialysis is recommended. At age of 83, it is safe to go for dialysis? Can creatinine be treated orally avoiding dialysis at this stage i.e. age of 83-year-old. OR the patient must go for one dialysis so that the creatinine level should come down in normal range and then the patient can be by medications only....??

Hello,
Your father is an elderly Diabetic,Diabetic Nephropathy leading to renal failure.
In longstanding Diabetes we expect such things to happen and according to the creatinine value it is an end stage renal disease.
Creatinines are toxic end products of the kidney and it has to be excreted by the kidneys.
When the kidneys are not functioning this as to be removed by filtering the blood and it is dialysis.
There are oral drugs for early stages but for this dialysis may the opition.

If your doctor recommends a dialysis, there is no age bar to it. Yes, you can undergo dialysis at the age of 83, if advised by your physician/nephrologist. Dialysis machine will take over the function of the kidneys, which cannot work to their optimum.
