Suffering from constipation and urine retention.Due to enlarged prostrate? On medication for COPD

Hi Doctor my dad(73 yrs) is suffering from urine retention and constipation after taking treatment for COPD.he never had urine retention problem before.After getting hospitalized for COPD he did not pass tool for 5 days and then he urine retention problem started from 5th day.Doctor says it is because of enlarged prostate.how is it possible urine retention problem which he never had starts soon after taking COPD treatment along with Constipation.pl advise.
