Hi Prashanth,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

Erosive gastritis and acidity requires long term treatment with proton pump inhibitors such as pantpprazole, omeprazole, or esmoprazole.

In addition to the drugs food habits and life style modification is important to manage this problem.

Try to reduce your stress by relaxation and meditation techniques.

Eat soft diet at regular meal timings.

Don't skip the meal.

Avoid spicy, junk, and fried foods.

Stop smoking and alcoholism if you are having these habits.

Avoid drinking caffeinated and carbonated drinks like cool drinks, coffee, and tea.

Repeat of upper GI endoscopy may be required to look for any erosion or ulcers in the stomach.

Helicobacter pylori infection has to be ruled out by appropriate investigations and if present it should be treated with antibiotic course.

I advise you to consult the gastroenterologist for further evaluation and management.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.

Pediatrician, Surgery Dr. Anand Sinha's  Response
Hello
Thank you for placing your query on Health Care Magic
Chronic and recurrent gastritis is most likely due to infection by a bacteria called Helicobacter pylori. It does not cause any other major problem but increases the acidity. It can readily be detected by doing a Rapid Urease Test during endoscopy. However you need not undergo a repeat scopy. Empirical treatment can be given if you are not responding to pataprazole. We need to give 2-3 weeks of antibiotics to get rid of the bacteria. Consult a gastro-enterologist or a surgeon for proper doses. Also along with pantaprazole, sucralfate syrup can be started. It helps in healing the stress ulcers. Finally stress is a major risk factor. Try meditation and lifestyle modification to relieve yourself of the stress and anxiety. Even drugs can be prescribed for the same.
Hope that helps you
God bless you
