Suffering from GERD, infected with bacteria, severe abdominal pain, on gentamicin, got relief. Will it start again after stopping?

Hello Doctor, I have been suffering from GERD for over 5 years now. 3 weeks ago , I was infected with a bacteria resulting in severe abdominal pain. Subsequently , I was put on gentamicin for 10 days and doxy 100 mg for another 10 days alongwith pantocid 40. The doxy course comes to an end today. Doctor has advised to stop all medications. I feel ok now, if not completely alright.

My problem is :

1) I believe if I stop all the medications , the abdominal pain will return.
2) more than the pain, my problem is the bowel. Every morning my stomach never used to empty completely. I had to use the was room more than twice every day to clear my stomach. The stools used to be semi solid in nature .
3) all of the above come alongwith elevated heart rate.

- by being on doxy 100 mg alongwith pantocid 40 mg , the above symptoms are getting better if not completely cured.

Do advise what should I do ?

Hi and welcome to HCM!
Thanks for posting your query here.
The bacterial infection would have been subsided now after using the antibiotics for 3 weeks. Hence after stopping the medication your problem will not return for sure. The difficulty in passing the stools can be referred as constipation. If there is a difficulty a diet rich in fibre, having lots of water and exercise will help in reducing the problem. All these mentioned will also help you in reducing the GERD problem. The increased heart rate could be because of your anxiety.
Pantocid 40mg will give relief in GERD. You are feeling better because of pantocid. The only affect of using pantop for longer duration-more than 3 months- is rebound acidity.
Please continue Pantocid for 2 more weeks. Then you can slowly stop the drug.
Hope this is helpful to you.

welcome to HCM forum.
Well, i believe, you don't have to continue with antibiotics but with pantocid yes for another 3-5 weeks.that will probably take care of GERD.

wish you a speedy recovery.

Chronic Reoccurring Symptoms There have been two long term reoccurring symptoms that have been around for more than ten years. Kidney Pain For three years around 1996, I had a series of Kidney infections ( about 10). These were treated with anti-biotic which eventually caused an allergic reaction and I had to find an alternate herbal remedy. The herbal remedy was very effective and eventually cured the problem. So I am well aware of the difference due to muscular pain and a kidney infection, which in my case was often associated by chemically induced anxiety (adrenal gland malfunction) that was cured by anti-biotic. In the past few months, Kidney pain has returned. Recently this has been initiated through reactions to pain-killers taken for toothache and lasted weeks instead of days. (The herbal remedy is no longer available) 2) Left Groin Pain Around 2006 / 7 I developed pain in my RHS Groin area. This seemed to be caused by sexual activity. This pain came and went over many years and again when it became bad was temporarily cured by anti-biotic. I suspect that this may be some form of aneurism as my father suffered from that problem. Recent Acute Illness I recently went on holiday to Thailand for two weeks and had the following problems. I developed severe abdominal pains on the outgoing flight, including left groin pain In the first week I developed constipation that responded to laxatives In the second week I developed severe abdominal pains and kidney pain, the most severe area of pain was my appendix area The abdominal pain increased and was so severe that I did not sleep for two days. I could not lie down too long and walked about to try and ease the pain. At this point I called a doctor. The doctor said that he thought it might be a kidney stone. He wrote the cause as gastroenteritis and gave me antibiotic Norfloxacic. He also gave me , Buscopan for Abdominal pain and Molax-M He gave me an injection for immediate relief and this dulled the pain but did not make it go away. He told me that if the pain did not respond to the anti-biotic after 24 hrs to call the doctor again After 24hrs the pain was considerably less and after another day it had diminished to the point where I could get out of bed and walk around. Although diagnosed with Gastroenteritis, I did not vomit or go to the toilet. My bowel movements did not become normal until the 5 day course of antibiotic was completed. I was prone during this illness to belching but was unable to pass wind. I felt unwell for the next two weeks and at work on 5th December started belching and getting Kidney pain again. I called 111 and after answering their questions they dispatched some paramedics to my place of work. At the hospital they gave me a second ECG and checked my urine, but did not do a kidney scan or x-ray.

Hi, My wife is suffering from a peculiar problem since 15-18 months. We have consulted 2-3 gynaecology doctors including the one who delivered the first child. We couldn t find any solution. Please help to identify the problem and investigation needed. Patient details: Name - Suma, Age -32/33 Birth date :1st Nov 1984 Marriage date : 4th Feb 2012 First child born on : 7th Feb 2014 - Normal delivery She is getting periods on regular basis without any issues. She was having copperT and we got it removed suspecting as it could be the reason for this pain. However, it did not resulted any difference. We have just started planning for second child. She is not a diabetic. She is VitaminD deficient and we have taken tabs and injection for it. Problem: After a few days of menstrual period,(on an average. a week after period completion) she is getting pain ( on a regular basis, almost daily) in lower abdomen (only right side) and it travels through right lap and whole leg. It increases over the time and comes down automatically. On an avg. this severe pain stays for 15-20 minutes before it reduces in its own and eventually vanishes in another 10-15 minutes. So this whole problem starts, peaks, reduces and vanishes over 40 minute duration. It usually/mostly occurs in the morning times (on an average any time between 3 am to 7 am) , right after she passes urine/stool. However, there are a few occasions where it starts anytime in the day suddenly ( with or without passing urine/stool). This whole process starts a week (on an avg.) after her period completion and occurs regularly until a week before starting of next menstrual period. It does not occur not more than once in a day. She is not taking any medicines during the pain, rather it reduces automatically. Treatment done so far: We have visited Four of the well known gynaecology doctors over the last 12-15 months and common answer is “ There is no issue”. We have done the CT scan and everything is normal ( around a year ago). Couple of time urine culture resulted some infection and she took medicines. One doctor prescribed apcod sachets on a daily basis according to the insulin resistance test results. We are using it currently. Apart of Apcod, she is not using any medicines. One doctor attributed to gastro related as we eat outside regularly. We have paused eating outside for few days , however it did not give any results. I have attached her medical tests, recent urine culture, CT scan report.,insulin resistance reports.

I live in Lehigh Acres, FL. Yesterday I got a severe abdominal pain one hour after my dental appointment for teeth cleaning. I did not eat that morning before the procedure. In the dental office I was treated with antibiotics under my gums (2 spots) and also my doctor used some sweet and bitter yellow liquid which supposed to help slowing down bacteria grouth in my mouth. In one hour after that I started vomiting and very strong pain above my naval area. I ate nothing before that. I ended up in the emergency room of the local hospital where they did blood work, urine test and abdominal cat scan . They decided that I have urine infection because they found nothing besides blood in my urine (but I just started my period being in the emergency room). I do not have urine infection symptoms for sure. Or at least my pain has nothing to do with urine infection symptoms. I called to the dentist office and the doctor/technician who performed my teeth cleaning said that it s impossible to be poisoned with medications she used. Why would I have such bad pain after my dental appointment? And another question why should I pay for my emergency room visit if they were useless at all? They could not even eliminate my stomach ache just made it not so strong for a while.

Plus the head of my bed is raised 6 inches. I also chew Rolaids somtimes for quick relief.
