Suffer From Constant Swollen Tonsils And Larynx, Pain Below The Ear And Hoarse Voice. Feeling A Bone In The Throat. What Is It?

Hi, please help! I have constant swollen tonsils, larynx and hoarse voice all the time. I can now feel a long hard bone if I put my finger right at the back of my mouth on the left. I also suffer from pain just under my ear at the top of the jawbone . What can this be, as no medication dulls the terrible pain. I battle to swallow my own saliva

Hello

Thanks for writing to H.C.M. for your query.

I have gone through your query regarding your enlarge and painful tonsils, and swlling below the ear and hoarseness of voice. You are feeling some hard bony structure deep down in your throat.

Here first of all I would like to tell you that stop putting your finger in your throat by this you are giving infection to your throat, Till you continue this habbit , it becomes difficult to treat you. The hard bone which you are feeling in throat is the epiglotis and arytenoids, they are present in all persons.

Considering your complaints it appears as most likely you are having Acute tonsillitis with laryngopharyngitis. You may take following treatment-

(a) Antibiotic- Preferably sccording to C/S test of throat swab.

(b) Anti inflammatory and analgesic.

(c) Anti allergic and decongestant.

(d) Warm saline gargling / Steam inhalation.

I hope this will help you, If there remains any problem after above treatment, you should consult ENT specialist for examination and further treatment.

Regards.
