Suffer From Sjogren's Disease And Vaginal Itching. Tried Pudental Nerve Block And Nerve Block. Any Advice On Interferon Injections?

I have extreme vaginal itching with Sjogrens. I have tried just about every ointment known to man. I have used vaginal moisturisers to no avail. I have under gone a pudental nerve block and a spinal nerve block and I am still itching. I have read about interferon injections? any advice would be appreciated. The problem I have encountered is few doctors including rheumatologists know much about it.

On the contrary interferon may have a side effect of itching seen in treatment of hepatitis C.

Local hydrocortisone containing creams may offer some help along with phenergan tabs

Neurologist Dr. Sandhya Manorenj's  Response
Hi,
Sjogren's syndrome is an autoimmune disease that causes dryness in your mouth and eyes. It can also lead to dryness in other places that need moisture, such as your nose, throat ,skin and vagina.

Women with Sjögren’s syndrome have difficulty with vaginal dryness, especially after menopause. There are several products specifically designed for vaginal dryness, including vaginal moisturizers, estrogen cream, vitamin E oil, and vaginal lubricants; talk to your healthcare provider for specific recommendations.

A class of medications called disease-modifying drugs (DMARDs) is commonly used to slow the immune system’s destructive effects because of the autoimmune nature of disease. These drugs are indicated only in multiple organ involvement .These include immunosuppressive agents methotrexate (Rheumatrex), azathioprine (Imuran), mycophenolate (Cellcept), cyclophosphamide (Cytoxan). In addition, researchers are evaluating rituximab (Rituxan) and other biological therapies to treat cases of Sjögren's that affect the entire body.

Patients with primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS) have an activated type I interferon (IFN) system that contribute to the etiopathogenesis and clinical manifestations of the disease. Less data are available with regard to the role of anti-CD22, anti-BAFF, anti-IL-1, type 1 interferon, and anti-T–cell agents in treatment of primary Sjögren syndrome, with further investigations ongoing

Consult gynaecologist for vaginal examination sometime simple fungal infection can be missed which can also produce similar complaints which require antifungals.

Consult Rheumatologist for expert opinion of starting immunosuppresant in your case

Hope this will help you
