Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband has CHF. He is 46 and seeing a cardiologist. They are working on getting his medications dosage up. His biggest complaint is that he can't sleep, he only sleeps and hour at a time and the lack of sleep is really taking a toll on him. The doctors couldn't find a cause for his CHF, maybe virus or alcohol. Is it ok for him to use a MMJ edible to sleep? A friend gave him some gummy bears and he finally got a good nights sleep.
Hi,
Welcome to HCM,
Your husband is having CHF and I am sure he is taking all medicines regularly and following advise regarding fluid intake and salt restriction, some times if there are drugs which may cause Insomnia so please discuss with your treating doctor.
It is not at all good to take alcohol,or MMJ to such patients.
Please do not give any such thing if he was taking alcohol before then it may be due to withdrawal of alcohol.
There are many drugs which can be given for sleep please ask for prescription of anti anxiety or sedative for short period which should help him.
In fact if his failure improves and he is comfortable without any shortness of breath he will have good sleep, propped up posture during sleep may also be helpful.
Please take very good care of him.
Good Luck
He is probably having Cardiomyopathy - virus or alcohol are known to cause it...
May be heart failure and/or anxiety is disturbing his sleep
You have not stated his personal habits, family history or co-morbidities
Marijuana (MMJ edible) is bad for anybody - leave alone heart patient...it is inviting trouble
There are safer drugs to promote sleep - ask your Physician.
Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck
