Sudden Shivering, Neck Pain. No Medication Taken. Cause?

My husband is all of sudden after dinner start shivering. I took his temp, it is 97.5, took bp twice one 126/82 and the other time 146/86. He complains about body ache espcially back of his neck. Otherwise, he is alert and coherent. He ate wate melon after dinner and also was out for an hour before; its not too cold about 70 with light wind outside. I gave him hot water with sugar and lots of blanket. He seems to be doing a little bit better. What was causing this all of a sudden? He takes no medication and otherwise in good health.

Hi there,

Thanks for writing in.

If it has subsided, don't worry about it. Might be a self limiting viral illness or a neck sprain.

The temperature is quite normal. If you want you could say may be a low grade fever.

You haven't mentioned your husband's age. If he is above 35, it would be a good idea to get a complete check up. Sometimes, low blood sugars could lead to shivering/tremors.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Dr. Divya Kuttikrishnan
