Strep Throat That Wont Go Away, Please Help
I have strep throat and can t get rid of it. I had a positive rapid strep screen and took Zpac which was worthless and now am on Cipro 500mg for 10 days which I thought was helping, I have 2 days left and starting today my throat is all red again and started to hurt just like it did when it first came on. I have changed toothbrushes like 6 times and cleaned and sanitized and aired out my house. also my kids have had it and my daughter is now on her 2nd dose of antibiotics . why wont this go away. and is it even possible for it to start to go away and then start coming back while still on Cipro or do u think this is maybe a virus on top of it? please help

For your condition only antibiotics are not sufficient, you need to take some anti-inflammatory medicines, povidone iodine mouth gargles, proton pump inhibitors (if you are having acid reflux) drink plenty of warm water and avoid chilled food/oily food for few days. Also, ciprofloxacin is not the drug of choice. Get back to your ENT specialist and discuss with him regarding this.

You are suffering from Streptococcal Pharyngitis, which is known to spread by person-to-person contact with nasal secretions or saliva, often among family or household members. All members should be away from each other until the infection subsides. Be aware that most of the sore throats are caused by Viruses, but it is treated with antibiotics of Penicillin group, like Amoxycillin 500mg, take this drug for 10 days thrice daily even though symptoms are usually gone after few days. Try over the Counter Pain Medications like Paracetamol 650mg twice or thrice daily. Drink warm liquids and gargle with warm saline water several times a day.
