Stopped Sprintec, HPT Negative. How Long It Takes To Get Back To Normal?

I stopped taking sprintec about 5 months ago. My first month was completely normal then was followed by 6-8 weeks of spotting. I finally got something like a normal period and then it was 6 weeks before getting my period again. I should have gotten my period 1 week ago based on a normal 28 day cycle, and have tested negative on an HPT . I ve heard it takes up to 6 months to get back to normal, but with the low dose birth control it shouldn t take as long. Should I be concerned yet?

Hi,
Thanks for the query.
It is true that after stopping the hormonal pills, it will take some time for regularization of the menstrual cycles.
And this period differs from person to person.
And also depends on previous condition for which hormonal pills were used.
Like if you used the pills for conditions like poly cystic ovary disease etc, there is possibility of recurrence of the condition and leading to irregularity in cycles.
As you are having around 6 weeks cycles now, wait for 2 more weeks.
If you do not get periods by that time, repeat the urine pregnancy test.
If the test comes negative, consult gynecologist once, get examined and go for investigations like ultrasound, thyroid profile, hemoglobin levels etc.
By these the possible cause for your problem can be identified and treated. Then you can take tablets to induce withdrawal bleeding.
Take care.
