Stomach Ulcers, Prescribed Antibiotics, Feeling Irrational Things. Side Effect Of Antibiotic Pill?

An aunt who is 73years old is recovering from stomach ulcers . She was taken off arthritis medication because this is what caused the ulcers. She now uses a gel (I forgot the name) 4 x a day as the only form of medication for the arthritis symptoms which are swollen legs and feet. The stomach ulcers have improved greatly but she moves very slowly and her legs look crooked. Lately, a sore was discovered on her foot. The Dr. prescribed an ointment which appears to be helping. She was prescribed antibiotics (big pill) and an additional water pill. This does seem to help with the swelling; however, she is now saying irrational things such as seeing people in the house-who are not there. Can this be a side effect of the antibiotic pill. She also takes two high blood pressure pill and formerly took a pill for depression which was not re authorized for usage. She only took that due to not having an appetite during the height of the stomach ulcer problem.

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hi,
Welcome to Health care magic forum.

With the available details, there appears to be possibility of electrolyte imbalance or reappearance of depression.

As such there appears to be least correlation between present symptoms and use of antibiotics.

You should consult with internal medicine specialist / neurologist and should go for thorough check up.

She should also go for serum electrolytes, complete hemogram, renal function test, liver function test and MRI scan brain.

She should also go for endoscopy, if possible.

Treatment depends on exact diagnosis

Thanks,
Dr. Mayank Bhargava
