Sperm Count Showed Motility And Liquefaction. What Do They Denote?
Dear doctor, My husband recently did a sperm count and these were his results: Liquification: 15 min Ph: 9 Color: normal Sperm count: 36 mill Total sperm: 180 mill/vol
Motility: Rapid: 10% Non rapid: 10% Nonprogressive: 15% Immotile: 65%
On a side note, my husband is healthy and fit and went through a varcocile surgery 4 months ago and his sperm count went up from 1 mill to 36 mill. I would like to know with these recent results would it be able for us to conceive naturally. Thank you
Following a varicocele surgery, that too after 4 months, your husband's sperm count increased from 1 million to 38 million is a very good response. As far as your husband's seminal analysis, every parameters including liquefaction time and total count were within normal limits except that of the motility of the sperms which is very poor and has to be improved. With this motility it is unusual to make you to conceive spontaneously. Your physician will help in this regard. Good luck to you. Dr S.Muruigan
Hello Thanks for your query.Based on the facts and report of semen analysis of your husband that you have posted it appears that he has what is called as Asthenospermia meaning there by that percentage of active motile sperms is low as compared to WHO standards which is supposed to be minimum 15-20%.
However three consecutive readings taken over a period of 6 months are taken into consideration before taking any decision about fertility of individual.
Please repeat semen analysis after 2 months and consult qualified infertility specialist tfor further treatment. There are every possibilities of natural conception.
Dr.Patil.
