Sore Throat, Weird Feeling And Pain On Tongue With White Coating, History Of Ear Infection. Cause?

I ve had a very sore throat (i have white splotches on my tonsils) for 3 days now. Today I woke up & my tongue kinda felt weird, like it s raw where my molars touch it & I ve had a white coating or film on my tongue all day. I brushed it off with my toothbrush but it didn t help. My whole tongue just hurts. If a piece of food or liquid touch it, it burns. I m totally confused. Don t know if this has anything to do with it, but 2 wks ago I came back from a wk long cruise in the Bahamas, & I think I got an ear infection . I can feel/hear fluid in it & if I press behind my ear, it feels like I m being stabbed way down deep. My balance has been off for a couple days too.

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hi
I am Dr Ravinder Sharma. On the basis of information provided it appears that you have problem in your oral cavity and ear.

Possible cause of problem in oral cavity are

1. Acute infection of the oral cavity and tonsil (acute gingivostomatitis)
2. Oral thrush - fungal infection of oral cavity

Possible cause of problem in ear are
Acute suppurative infection in ear (infection of ear due to infection in oral cavity and throat)
Secretory otitis media (fluid in ear)

The complaint of dizziness may be related to either above mentioned disease in ear or because of the complication of ear disease (labyrinthitis - inflammation of inner ear causing dizziness and hearing loss or heaviness in ear)

I would advise you for a ENT consultation to resolve the issue. You may require some tests (smear examination from oral cavity and a audiometry for ear complaint)for the diagnosis.
I hope this answers your concerns. Feel free to contact me if you want further information about it
With regards
Ravinder Sharma
