Sore Throat, Hurts To Swallow. Tried Throat Lozenge

The left side of my throat is really sore and it hurts to touch along the bottom left side of my jaw. it hurts to swallow and my left side of my throat feels swollen. When i eat it scraps my throat and i can taste blood . i had the same thing about two weeks ago and when mum took me to the doctors my throat had settled down a bit so they told me there was nothing wrong. this time it has come back worse and it hurts heaps. ive tried throat lozenges but they dont help and im not eating very much because it hurts too much. please help..

Hello Jessica,
Thanks for the query on HCM. What is your age & how was your childhood in terms of throat infections ? You should see a specialist ENT who can examine & check if you are developing an abscess (pus collection) in/around tonsil area. As per your description of severity of your symptoms, you need antibiotics which the doctor can prescribe after examination. Were you given antibiotics 2 weeks back, if yes, your doctor might give you 2nd level (higher/stronger) antibiotics this time.
You can try hot saline gargles (salt-water), but do visit a specialist quickly.
ENT specialist from HCM here can advise further.

Hello Jessica,
Your symptoms can be due to infection of submandibular gland (a salivary gland) too or other local infection. I hope you are consulting ENT Specialist who can exam you to diagnose & treat your problem.
