Sore, Red Toe, Swollen, Difficulty In Walking. What Could Be This?

I have a sore, red toe that is swollen a little bit - the toe next to my little toe. This happened about a month ago, lasted for a week and then disappeared. It makes walking difficult. I was planning to go to my dr. tomorrow (if I can get in, but decided to do some research on the Internet.) Would you have any hints for me as to what to do? Thank you. Thank you, but my insurance will cover my visit to my dr. Have a good day!!

Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The sore red toe with the swelling that you have mentioned is likely to be due to a local infection or inflammation in the area. A direct examination is an integral part of diagnosis.

Hello,
Thanks for writing to us

After going through the entire description, pain and swelling seems to be inflammatory in nature. It could be due to an acute attack of gout.
I advice you to give you rest to the part affected, take anti-inflammatory drug like ibuprofen to reduce pain and inflammation and consult your doctor for thorough examination to rule out any infective cause.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement Dr. K. Naga Ravi Prasad's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Soreness, redness along with swelling of the toe indicates either an inflammatory or infective process. An appropriate course of an antibiotic and analgesic medication may help in resolving the condition.

A detailed physical examination & appropriate investigations will establish a correct diagnosis of the condition.

Consult an orthopedic surgeon for a detailed workup and management.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
