Soft, Large Bulge Appearing In Abdomen While Sitting After Lying Down. Diagnosed With Sliding Hiatal Hernia. Possible Second Hernia?

My husband has developed a condition where, when he is lying on his back and begins to sit up, a large soft bulge appears in the midline of his abdomen. It can be pushed back in. The muscle seems to have split midline. I assume this is some kind of hernia. Doctors do not seem concerned, since it is large - maybe 8" long - and therefore unlikely to become strangulated. What is this kind of hernia called? He was just diagnosed with a sliding hiatal hernia, which will be followed up on. I am wondering if there is a connection between these two hernias.
Thanks. Jane

He could be either having large paraumbilical hernia or diverication of recti. Chances of complications are less even then it has to be operated.
Take care
