Smoking on and off, painful itching in chest, occasional cough. Any ideas ?

Hi, I m a 23 year old male and I smoke half a pack a day. Ive been smoking on a off for 10 years. I recently have had a very painful itchy sensation in my chest and it has been going on for 3 days but is not getting any better. I occasionally have a cough , but have never experienced this until now. Any ideas? Thank you.

Hello retardella89
Welcome to HCM
Itchy sensation and cough with history of 10 year smoking shouldn't be ignored. There may be possibility of
- Smokers cough
- Bronchitis or lung infection may occur in predisposed individual.
- Pleural effusion may be a possibility, ad smoking may cause infection and then pleural effusion.
- Individual may be at risk of TB
- BRONCHOGENIC CANCER is also a possibility.

So please visit a good doctor and take opinion for cough
Take care
Good luck
