Small Lump On The Inside Of Left Elbow, Feels Tougher. Could This Be Sarcoma ?

Hi,

I have had a small lump on the inside of my left elbow for over two years. I have been told by my physician and a physician who is a friend that it is just a fatty deposit. As of the last six months it does feel tougher and my left hand seems to easily fall asleep if my arm is bent for more than fifteen minutes i.e. when on the phone. Could this be a Sarcoma? Should I be worried?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,
Welcome at HCM.

It does not looks to be a sarcoma.Sarcoma are malignant tumor which grows faster & spreads.If it is a sarcoma then in last two years it would have been increase upto size of foot ball .So it is not in your case.You should not worry.You should get a biopsy of it & get it removed from your surgeon.

With best wishes.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement Dr. K. Naga Ravi Prasad's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.
Fatty deposits in the hands are an usual presentation. They are called "Lipomas". These are benign (not cancers) swellings which are harmless but for cosmetic blemish. Very rarely they may turn malignant becoming "Liposarcomas".
There are a few warning signs and symptoms wherein a benign swelling turns malignant (cancers). So keep an eye on the following points and attend your doctor whenever they present -
* rapid change in the size or consistency of the swelling
* change in the colour of swelling

Hope this helps
* produces severe itching
